The Hermetic Law of Mentalism Reflection 2 : Why 'MENTAL' - ism?

“What is perceived as energy and force in nature is but an outward manifestation, or projection, of the mind of the All. This is the feature that allows the definition of the All as Infinite Living Mind. Now, the term spirit is used as a means of general identification of the mind.” (Ancient Future, by Wayne Chandler)

As I continue to study this Hermetic Law, it’s becoming clearer to me why the word “MIND” WAS used to describe the ALL.

Creation stories from around the globe describe a process by which human beings and all of creation were formed. Some kind of image is manifested into form from beyond the realm of matter.

Our own process of creating things is the same.

We always have an image or impression of what we’re creating before we create it. Many who live in Western cultures experience the location of the image in our head. We may or may not see all the intricate details of what we’re creating, but we have some sense of what we’re about to bring into existence. Whether it’s music, art, a meal, a piece of jewelry, a poem, etc. When we surrender into the realm beyond matter, that which is being created flows through us into a physical form - visual, sound, energetic, or tangible.

In Western Patriarchal scientific thought, imagination is understood to originate in the head, in the mind, the brain - but disconnected from the Spirit realm.

However, in Ancient Kemet and many other indigenous cultures, the seat of our imagination - is the heart. Images come from the spirit realm into the heart and from the heart to the mind where we conceptualize them. In the human body, the heart area is the center of the torso. In the chakra system, the heart is the center of the chakra centers, where the energies from heaven and earth meet. The workings of the mind/brain is spiritual activity. What we experience as body, mind and spirit are one.

Our heart sees and knows things from a different vantage point than our brain. From the vantage point of the heart, MIND includes not only thought, but feeling, sensing, and knowing in our being. Yet, it is our thoughts thru which the energies and vibrations that we imagine and intend manifest in physical form. When our thoughts are guided by the wisdom and love of our hearts, what we send out is at a higher vibratory level. As a result, what returns to us - what is manifested - is at a higher vibratory level.

“MIND”, in this context is not only about what we think or imagine, it’s also about where we begin the process.

So ‘MENTALISM’ is about the mind. But it is about much more than some of us think when we reflect on the workings of human imagination. Most of us are creating situations and experiences throughout each day with our thoughts and intentions. But many of us are doing so unconsciously - without awareness.

Part of our spiritual work is learning the practices each of us needs to do to connect with, and listen, to our hearts. Connection with our hearts increases our capacity to receive the knowing beyond thought - from Divine MIND.

Over time, study of the 7 Hermetic Laws reveal within us, the insights each of us needs, as we are ready for them. These insights give us the capacity to make different kinds of choices in our day-to-day lives. We can more often make choices grounded in love and in peace, regardless of what’s going on around us - so that we can continue our work as Light Workers with joy.
